WILD ANIMAL PICS....

I went to Lion Country Safari on January 2, 2000 in hopes of practicing my photography.  I'm afraid that I had a lazy mindset that day so I didn't spend a lot of time worrying about the basics of photography.  I did get lucky enough to shoot a few nice pics.....  Lion Country Safari is a drive through zoo..  You stay in your car....and the animals roam free within the confines of the park.  You cruise through the different environments created for the different species....  It's a great place to spend a few hours if you are ever in the West Palm Beach area of Florida.

There are many giraffes at Lion Country Safari....including a few youngsters.

2giraffe.jpg (28694 bytes)

Two of the many giraffes.  I counted over 20 giraffes in total.

elephant.jpg (31001 bytes)

There were 4 elephants.  3 of the group were on one side of the moat and a lone elephant was on the other side of the water....These two elephans are blocking the view of the third elephant behind them.

lionhead.jpg (32425 bytes)

A total of 6 male lions inhabit the park.  This fellow was rather rambunctious....I think he was having a bad day.....he paced around rumbling and growling all morning.  You could hear him on the other side of the park.  Here he has just finished sharpening his claws on the log.

malelions.jpg (48095 bytes)

Two male lions cat-napping.

mane.jpg (32732 bytes)

Same male lion as previous picture with his sleeping buddy omitted.

antlers.jpg (29219 bytes)

Waterbuck.   Native to Africa.  He eludes his predators by submerging his body in water....up to his nostrils!  Just the way I want to spend the day!

zebra.jpg (31881 bytes)

Zebra.  Did you know that each zebra's strips are as unique as our fingerprints?

dallsheep.jpg (33863 bytes)

Dalls' Sheep.   Their home range in the Alaskan highlands.  There were many babies running around the park when we visited...many just a few days old.

rhino.jpg (29956 bytes)

Southern White Rhino.  They are native to the southern plains and bush part of South Africa.  A baby rhino was born in November 1999.  We were able to see it but they keep him in a separate pen with his mother until he is old enough to handle life in the wild.

iguana.jpg (23395 bytes)

Wanna Iguana?   Cool guy!  He wanted his picture taken.....
